Modelling of Multi-Agent Systems: Experiences with Membrane Computing and Future Challenges

Formal modelling of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) is a challenging task due to high complexity, interaction, parallelism and continuous change of roles and organisation between agents. In this paper we record our research experience on formal modelling of MAS. We review our research throughout the last decade, by describing the problems we have encountered and the decisions we have made towards resolving them and providing solutions. Much of this work involved membrane computing and classes of P Systems, such as Tissue and Population P Systems, targeted to the modelling of MAS whose dynamic structure is a prominent characteristic. More particularly, social insects (such as colonies of ants, bees, etc.), biology inspired swarms and systems with emergent behaviour are indicative examples for which we developed formal MAS models. Here, we aim to review our work and disseminate our findings to fellow researchers who might face similar challenges and, furthermore, to discuss important issues for advancing research on the application of membrane computing in MAS modelling.Comment: In Proceedings AMCA-POP 2010, arXiv:1008.314

-- The thesis presented hereby belongs to the research who aims to the deep compréhension of the origins, of the development and the dynamics of the psychopathology of drug addiction. The research hypothesis is that the choice of using drugs, in order to obtain an immediate pleasure, is the main factor of the psychic dynamics of drug addicts, regardless the différence in regard to the organization of their personality. This choice is supposed to be at the origin of their toxic strategy, which allows them to handle with the psychic tensions as a self-heallng method. We have called toxic stratégies the signs that an unconscious dynamic is in plaœ and can be modified. The contents, which refer explicitiy or at a latent level to the toxic element, are the signs which the therapist is meant to "hear" and elaborate thoroughly. The aim is thereby to draw out the toxic strategy in use inside the treatment of drug users, to detect their various modes of expression. In order to achieve a better understanding of the way the recourse to a real, omnipotent, inanimate mean, placed on the outside of the mental function, such as drugs, we examine how those toxic stratégies tends to obscure the trail of the mental function and to maintain the defense system, which abolishes, among others, every therapeutic alliance, whenever it is possible to obtain one. The specificity of this dinical domain wouldn't be the object-drug (the toxic), its effects or its properties, but the modalities of choosing it and those of its function. The relapse or the interruption of treatment are considered as extemal operational criteria, which are meant to reveal the failure of the therapeutic process, which for the therapist is not sufficiently familiar to deal with the toxic stratégies of the patients. To a better understanding of the function of toxic stratégies in the therapeutic process, we are following three axes of research: 1. The drawing out and the classification of the toxic stratégies. 2. "The cases analysis of theraples with relapse, regarding the presence and évolution of toxic stratégies or not. 3. The cases analysis of advanced therapies without relapse, regarding the awaneness and consciousness of the toxic function, leading to the diminution or abandon of the use of these stratégies. The adopted method consists of the content analysis of the patients' sayings, taken out of the therapeutic treatment, which is characterized by interactive communication, defined by an institutional third. In the case of therapeutic failures, we need also to look for the causes in the particular feelings of the therapists towards their patients, especially at the moment of the introduction of the toxic stratégies during the therapeutic process. Whether or not these toxic stratégies will be taken in to considération inside the process, will define the possibilités of the therapist to organize, or not, an area of change; in order to facilitate him to subjectivate the experience of the drug addict, by giving sense to it and make it valuable for his life. The therapeutic work proposed, with a view to prevent from relapses of the drug addicts and the attempted suicides, treats both the behavioral aspects, and the addict as a whole person. Regarding the clinical practice, these modalities which need to be found demanding adjustments. Without this specific proposed approach, these forms of therapeutic failures would remain unexplained

A Design Language and Tool for X-machines Specification

    No full text
One of the most essential phases of software development is the system specification. Xmachines is an intuitive formal method which can be easily applied at this phase and also facilitate testing in order to prove the correctness of an implementation with respect to the specification. Although the X-Machine theory is already defined in detail mathematically, there is a lack of automated tools which can facilitate its use. In this paper, a brief introduction to the X-Machine theory is presented and a language for specifying X-Machines is defined, which could act as a communication protocol among various X-Machine tools. In addition, a proof tool is presented which checks special properties of X-Machines that are defined as prerequisites for the X-Machine testing algorithm.
